What Dew Select collects

  • Your profile answers (how you describe yourself, your age, your skin type) stay on your phone. They are sent with a reading so the reading can compare your skin's appearance to your age, and are stored with that reading.
  • Selfies. When you choose to take a reading, the photo is sent once to our server, described by an AI model, and then discarded by the server. The photo itself stays only on your phone. The written reading (scores, concerns, the words describing your skin and hair, an appearance age, a hair color description and a skin tone estimate) is stored on your phone and, tied to an anonymous account id, on our server so the app can build your routine. The full details are under Face data below.
  • Product photos and barcodes you scan are sent once to identify the product and are not kept.
  • An anonymous account. The app creates a random account id on first launch. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • Affiliate clicks. When you tap through to a retailer we record which product and retailer, tied to the anonymous id, so we can see what works. The retailer and its affiliate network then set their own cookies under their own policies.
  • Notifications. Reminders are scheduled on your phone. We do not send push notifications from a server.
  • Usage analytics. The website uses Google Analytics and the app uses Firebase Analytics (both Google) to count visits, screens viewed, searches and taps on Buy buttons, so we can see which products and guides people use. This data is aggregated, tied to a random analytics identifier rather than to you, and not used for advertising. We do not send your photos, readings or email address to analytics.

Face data (the selfie reading)

What we collect. Only if you choose to take a reading: one photo of your face from the front camera. From that photo an AI model writes a text reading: a skin type, a glow score, the concerns it can see (for example redness or dark spots) with ring positions on the photo, an appearance age, a skin tone estimate and, when your hair is visible, a hair type and hair color description. We do not create face geometry, face prints or any biometric identifier, we do not use Face ID or the TrueDepth camera, and we do not use the photo to recognize or identify anyone.

How we use it. Only to show you your reading, to build your skincare and hair routine, and to compare your next reading with your last one. Never for advertising, analytics, identification or training AI models.

Who it is shared with. The photo travels over an encrypted connection to our server (Supabase, United States), which passes it once to Anthropic's Claude API to write the reading. Anthropic acts as our service provider: under its commercial terms it does not train models on this data and deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, keeping them longer only if a request is flagged under its usage policy or the law requires it. No one else receives the photo or the reading. We never sell or share face data, and it is never sent to analytics or advertising services.

Where it is stored. The photo is stored only on your phone, in the app's private storage, so the app can draw your reading over it. Our server never saves the photo. The written reading is stored on your phone and on our server (Supabase, United States), tied to a random anonymous account id, not to your name, email or phone number.

How long we keep it, and deleting it. Photos and readings are kept until you delete them. In the app, Settings, then Delete my readings, removes every reading and every reading photo from your phone and deletes the readings and routines stored on our server. Uninstalling the app removes everything on the phone. The app keeps your 30 most recent readings and deletes older photos automatically. What we do not do

  • We do not sell or share personal data with advertisers.
  • We do not use your photo to train models.
  • We do not show ads.

Who processes data for us

Google (Google Analytics on the website and Firebase Analytics in the app, for usage statistics), Supabase (database and authentication, hosted in the United States) and Anthropic (the AI model that reads the photo; it does not train on this data and deletes inputs within 30 days, see Face data above). Retailer affiliate networks receive the click when you tap Buy.

Your choices

Delete your readings at any time from Settings; this deletes them and their photos from your phone and deletes the copies tied to your anonymous id on our server. Uninstalling the app removes everything on the phone. For any request, write to hello@dewselect.com.
